Tap to top on iphone

Just scrolled down a really long list in Notes, or worked your weary way through a ton of emails? Instead of laboriously scrolling back to the top, you can jump there immediately by tapping at the very top of the iPhone's screen.

We'd rank this tip with the double-space full stop: it's reasonably widely known, but for everyone else it's a game-changer.
And it's not just Notes and Mail; tap to top works in most iPhone apps. (It doesn't work in the marvellous Cricinfo app, we've noticed, but that app offers a little upward arrow icon that does the same thing. If tap to top isn't working, check for some equivalent function.)
Some apps, cleverly, offer an undo on this function, just in case you tap it by accident and lose your place in a long article. The excellent Instapaper pops up a Return to Position command, for instance - and if the menu bars have disappeared you have to tap the top of the screen twice to activate the feature in the first place.
Experiment to see if the app you're using offers some other variation on or evolution of this handy feature.

Use your headphones to take a selfie on iphone

Selfies continue to be all the rage, as we're sure you've noticed, but if the quality of your selfies is a concern, try this handy trick.

A decent proportion of iPhone owners know that you can activate the camera shutter by pressing one of the volume buttons (volume up or volume down - doesn't matter which) instead of the onscreen button. This tends to produce less camera shake.
But a still better option for selfies - and one that is far less widely known - is to use the volume button on an attached pair of headphones.
When the camera app is open on your iPhone, you can use the volume button on an attached pair of headphones to take a photo. Not only does this reduce shake even more than using the iPhone's volume button, but it also means you can take a more natural-looking photo from further away or take a photo hands-free.

Save PDF to iBooks on iPhone

You can turn web pages into PDFs and add them directly to your iBooks app. This is handy if you're reading a long web document, or especially if you've found a HTML book online and want to keep a copy of it.
When you tap Share, scroll across the apps to find Save PDF to iBooks. Tap it and the web page will be converted and added to your book collection

How to take photos while shooting videos in iphone

You're using your iPhone to film a magical moment, and you wish you could snap a photo at the same time. Don't stop recording! Just tap the camera button, which appears on-screen in addition to the shutter button as you film.
You aren't using the iPhone's true photo sensor; you're getting the slightly less impressive video sensors instead, but the photos should still turn out pretty nicely.

Create custom ringtones and alert tones in iTunes or GarageBand

You can create ringtones for your iPhone based on any music track in your iTunes library. We looked at this in depth here
(the tutorial includes a video to walk you through the process), but to sum up: create a short, sub-30-second duplicate version of the track; convert the file type of this track from .m4a to .m4r; re-import the track to iTunes as a ringtone; sync the ringtone with your iPhone.
Better still, you can create unique custom iPhone ringtones from your own audio creations, and this is especially user-friendly if you do the creative work on the iPhone itself. Create a 30-second track in GarageBand; go to the Share options and choose Ringtone; then assign it to a contact or notification.

GOOGLE NOW ON ADROID (PERFECT ASSISTANT)

Google now is a personal assistant developed by Google to aid Android users.
Aid you how?
This feature on your device uses your data to serve you quality information, it uses data like (What you search on Google, your locations, and other details). It uses these details to provide you with the best answers.
All you will need to do to get an amazing result is,
1. Ask a question via your microphone.
Or
2. Type the question into the search box.
You can also set it to show feeds even before you search.
I’d advice you customize the google app, it will ask you a few questions and you should reply with the appropriate answer for the best app experience.
That’s not all.
The ”Google now” can also make calls, send texts messages, get directions, set reminders, play music and videos, set alarm, etc.

All you will have to do is.
1. Open Google now
2. Tap on the mic.
3. Say ”Ok google”
This android feature is embedded on Android 4.0 Jellybean and above.
Below is the command to access ”Google now”

Command = On some devices, hold the middle button for about two seconds to activate, if this doesn’t work for you, you can look for the ”Google” app in your app drawer or download the Google app from playstore.

HIDDEN GAME ON ANDROID

I once wrote a full post about Hidden android features (Games). The post covers hidden games on android Marshmallow, Lollipop, KitKat, and Jellybean.

Did you know that there are games on your android device that you have never played?
Well yes.
Each Android device has its unique hidden game that is accessible by performing certain operations.
These hidden games are quite very difficult to play, trust me, I have tried and have gotten epic fails while playing.
You really don’t have much to do in the game, it’s basically just tapping you will be doing to avoid moving obstacles.
The process to access this game is quite long, I would advise that you see the full article in the link above.

ANDROID DATA PROTECTION (LOCK YOUR IMAGES, VIDEOS, SONGS AND DOCUMENTS)

Do you have specific songs, videos or other files that you want to keep private? And by ”keep private” I mean locking the files so that only you would have access to them.

With this cool Android tip, you don’t need to download apps that lock files, the data protection locks just about anything on your internal storage or sd card. From your gallery files to PDF files, ZIP files, and other file extensions.
Although this Android feature has been confirmed for only Android Lollipop and Marshmallow devices.
To use this cool android feature;
Command = Go to settings, tap on security, Then tap on data protection.

You will have to set a new pattern lock that will differ from your android device’s initial pattern lock.

To lock files follow the steps below;

Step 1: Tap on the (+) button located at the top right of your screen.

Step 2: Select the folder where the file you want to lock is located.

Step 3: Tap on the pencil located at the top right.

Step 4: Finally select the files you want to lock and tap on the lock symbol located at the top right.
When files are locked, you can unlock them by tapping on edit, then select the file, and finally, tap on the unlock icon at the top righ

ANDROID HOT KNOT - ANOTHER COOL WAY OF SENDING FILES

This is one feature that up to 80% of android users do not know its use. The Hot Knot is a new feature that was recently installed on android devices.
How does it work?

Well, I am no hardware engineer, but research has made me know that it involves the interaction of touchscreens on Android devices in such a way that one acts as a transmitter and the other acts as a receiver.
In a lay man’s term, You can transfer files from one android device to another without using Bluetooth or wifi.
But for this to work, both devices need to have Hot Knot and they need to be at about a centimeter close to each other.
What can you send?
Well, you can send just about anything.
From photos, videos, contacts, share application data and lots more.
To activate this cool android tip, Go to settings, Select Hot Knot, Then switch it on,

ANDROID SMART LOCK

For security reasons, we always lock our android phones to prohibit people from gaining access to our data. Some of us use pattern lock, some pin, some password, sensors and so on.

You would agree with me that most times that fact that your android device is always locked whenever you try to access it can be quite annoying.
Maybe you are at home and no one else is around and you want to access your device, but you always have to go through that long process of unlocking your device with your 19 digit password or hybrid pattern lock.
Or, maybe you hate the fact that you always have to unlock your android device to change a playing song or reply a message.
With this cool android feature called ”smart lock,”  your days of being vexed are over.
Smart lock lets you enable basic options.
1. Trusted places: Set specific places where your device won’t lock.
2. Trusted devices: Set devices that when paired with your device, your device won’t lock.
3. Trusted face:  Looking at your device will unlock your phone.
Later versions like the marshmallow has options like;
3. On body detection: Your device will be unlocked while it is on your body and lock when it has been set down.
4. Trusted voice: Your device will unlock when OK Google recognizes your voice.
You should set up a lock on your device before setting up ”smart lock”
To activate the smart lock android feature.
Command = Go to settingstap on security(for other devices), tap on screen lock( for android marshmallow). Then tap on smart lock.

Right way to search in google

Google’s search engine is a slick machine, but the way most of us use it merely scratches the surface. You can do a lot more than just enter a word or phrase and, by taking advantage of Google’s more advanced features, you stand a much better chance of finding what we’re looking for, and faster, too.
Typing, though, has its advantages if you know how to use the advanced search features, as we'll now demonstrate:

How to search Google like a pro

1. Normally, Google responds to your searches by listing web pages. However, if you’re actually looking for news, images, videos or shopping, these can be selected from buttons on the home page. Other options are available from the ‘More’ menu.

2. The ‘Search Tools’ button displays various menus. Perhaps the most useful are the first one which allows you to choose between pages hosted in the UK or in all countries, and the second which lets you specify pages that were updated any time, in the past hour, the past day and other intervals.
3. Google usually lists pages that contain any of the words you enter. If you want to search only for an exact phrase (e.g. “War and Peace” but note sites just containing either or both of the words), put it in double quotes.

4. Even without quotes, if you enter “War Peace” Google is clever and will list pages containing “War and Peace” first but you can force its hand using AND or OR (in capitals). “War OR Peace” lists pages containing either word, “War AND Peace” lists page with both.

5. Sometimes you’ll want to exclude some words. Searching for Rooney will list sites predominantly relating to Wayne Rooney. If you’re interested in other Rooneys, but don’t know the first name, exclude Wayne with a minus sign (i.e. search for “Rooney -Wayne).

6. If you’re looking for a particular type of file, you can narrow the search using the ‘filetype:’ option. Searching for “Weather filetype:PDF”, for example, will only list Adobe Acrobat (i.e. PDF) documents containing the word weather.

7. A lot of these features and more are available by using Google Advanced Search. After searching, click on the cog wheel icon in the top-right of the results page and select ‘Advanced Search’. Note that a different Advanced Search form is available for images.

8. Using the ‘site:’ option, you can tell Google to search in a particular site, even if it doesn’t have its own search facility. For example, “Astronomy site:www.bbc.com” will search for pages containing the word Astronomy but only within the BBC site.

9. The ‘site:’ option also lets you to search in a particular country, other than just the UK (Step 2). Because an asterisk means “anything”, searching for “Astronomy site:*.cn” will restrict the search to Chinese sites. Country codes are listed here.

10. images.google.com lets you use an image as your search term instead of text. Click on the camera icon and then, either paste the URL of an image on the web or upload an image from your PC. Google will list similar images and sometimes related web pages.

11 - Unit conversion
When you need to convert one unit of measurement to another, just type: 1 pint in litres, 1GB in MB or 12 inches in cm. You can also convert temperature, area, mass, speed and time.

12 - Currency conversion
This works just like the unit converter, but with currencies. To get up to date exchange rates, simply type $100 in pounds, and Google will understand. You'll also see a graph of the exchange rate for the last five years
.
13 - Calculator
Google's calculator can handle pretty complex sums, not just the simple division here. You could, for example, type 13*8+(sqrt 87)= and you'd immediately get the answer.

14 - Weather
Need a local 24-hour local weather forecast? Just type weather Dulwich London and you'll get one. You can click the buttons to see the rainfall and wind speed and there's a 7-day forecast underneath.

15 – Films
Don't spend time looking at each cinema's website: just type films Canterbury to see what's on locally. A map to the right shows where the cinemas are located, and you can click the trailer button if you're not sure whether you'll like the film.

16 - Hotels
Typing Hotels bude cornwall will bring up a 'Hotels in Bude Cornwall on Google' link with a short list below. Click the link to launch the handy Google hotel finder where you can narrow your search by price, star rating, amenities and more.

17 - Flight tracking
No need to visit an airline's website: all you need to do is type the flight number and Google will show the details including departure and arrival times along with the airports and terminal numbers. It will also show the progress of a current flight and whether or not it's delayed.

18 - Maps
You're probably getting the hang of this, so we hardly need to explain that you merely need to type Stratford-upon-avon map to get a map of Stratford-upon-avon. Clicking the thumbnail will take you to Google maps.

19 - Package tracking
A nifty time-saving trick is to copy and paste your UPS or Fedex package tracking number into Google's search bar. Google will recognise which firm the number belongs to and all you need to do is to click the link to go straight to the company's website to see where your parcel is.

20 - Sports scores
Type the name of your favourite football team or sport and you can quickly see fixtures, scores and standings.
Type f1 calendar, for example and you can also see the schedule, with recent winners and even the time the next couple of races will start (in your local time).

21 - Stock quotes

To see the stock value of a company, either type its name followed by stock, or its short name (MSFT for Microsoft or APPL for Apple) and you'll see a graph along with the high and low figure for the period shown. The current value updates every few seconds.
